45. Possible FIX for PC MW3 Content Collection 2 error.

To get your DLC 2 working : exit Steam,  go to your Steam folder and delete your appcache folder. Then restart Steam and it should be available.

 

44. FIX for PC MW3 Content Collection 1 DLC Files error.

MapModNews created one ZiP file with ALL you need for properly disabling the 1st Modern Warfare 3 DLC files; so you can join regular lobbies (non-DLC players). (See also nr. 42)

The MW3-DLC-1-Deactivator.zip file offers you two choices :

Creating a Deactivator Desktop Short Cut that will disable the DLC, and run it again to re-enable or using the INGAME-MW3-DLC1-Deactivator.

43. No Crosshair and No Radar - Repair PC MW3 after visiting a modded lobby

Delete your config file:

1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to: C:program files\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 3\players2

2. Locate and delete config_mp.cfg

 

Next, Verify the File Integrity of Modern Warfare 3 within Steam:

 

File Integrity Check:

1. Load Steam

2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.

3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.

4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.

5. Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.

 

42. You want to play with non-MW3 DLC owners ( other way around isn't possible ! )

Go to your Steam directory on your PC, then steamapps, common, call of duty modern warfare 3

Go into the "zone" folder and move the Content Collection 1 DLC. To your desktop for example.

Then go to the "main" folder and move 42695.sdm as well.

(When you get errors, close the game, then open it again. )

And after all this the DLC doesn't load any more and you can play with players who didn't buy the Content Collection 1.

 

41.  Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer - main/iw_25.iwd different from the server.

You didn't buy the MW3 DLC pack or you did buy the MW3 DLC pack... It doesn't matter !

Players with or without can't play Multiplayer together.

Example :  When the host has dlc: all players without get kicked.

 

40. Modern Warfare 3 DLC Problems.

You bought the First Content Collection from the Steam store, downloaded it, but now the new maps won't load.

Try this :

* First start Single Player and then go to the Multi Player.

or

* Disable DLC (press F1 in menu)
* Enable it again

Then the playlists, maps and etc. come up. 

 

39. Modern Warfare 3 game crashing; and an iw5mp.exe error.

Try setting Voice to Mute All.

 

38. Stuttering in Modern Warfare 3 Single Player.

You know you have the specs but SP doesn't run smooth...  CLEAN your Machine !

Easiest way to do this is using all the free-ware programs from IObit.   (mid page)

Like Advanced SystemCare, Smart Defrag 2, IObit Uninstaller 2 and the IObit Toolbox.

 

37. You're on level 80 and you have all the xp needed to prestige to Prestige 1, but nothing happens...

You don't prestige automatically; you have to choose to prestige by clicking "prestige mode" on the left.

 

36. At the beginning of the MW3 Single Player game, when it wants to save game, you get this error.

^{ERROR SaveDevice_PC - Tempsavegame: cannot open file for saving. But you can play MW3 multiplayer without any error !!!}

 

You need to find out what kind of video card you have and update your nVidia or ATI graphics drivers.

35. After December 16th PC Modern Warfare 3 UPDATE - patch_mp.ff issue

Go to your library in Steam, right click on Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer, click on properties, click on Local Files and then Defrag Cache files. Also Verify the Integrity of Game Cache can fix this problem.

 

34. Huge drop of FPS after hosting a P2P MW3 game and hosting switches to an other player.

This issue makes  Modern Warfare 3 MP unplayable. Seems to be an issue with the game itself. NEEDS FIX ASAP !

 

33. The MW3 process using to much memory, game stutters.

Check with the Windows Task manager how much memory Modern Warfare 3 is using. When it's more than 2gb this can be the cause of the stuttering. Go to the MW3 players2 folder, open up config_mp.cfg and set seta r_preloadShaders to 1 and seta sm_maxLights to 0 and make the file read only so it doesn't revert back.

^{Use Wordpad (not Notepad) and when you're done making the changes do "Save" rather than doing "Save As" so that the file extension won't get changed.} 

 

32. Modern Warfare 3 Single Player Field of View (FoV) Changer

30. Modern Warfare 3 FPS Fix ?

If you can’t get the max/stable frame rate in Modern Warfare 3, make sure you have Vertical Sync set to off.

 

29. MW3 Spec ops survival - Lost Connection to Player.

At random MW3 kicks you out of the game and back to the Spec Ops menu it says "Lost Connection to Player".

Reported : In MW3 Co-Op NAT is Moderate while, without changing anything, MW3 Multiplayer says NAT is Open.

When you have MW3 on retail disc;  put disc 1 in you computer and start game in Steam. This sets the NAT to open. Take disc out NAT goes to strict...

 

28. MW3 - Process keeps hanging in a Steam cloud sync.

Close all. Now restart Steam in Offline mode and go to properties for MW3 and disable steam cloud sync. Restart Steam in Online mode.

 

27. Why can't I install Modern Warfare 3 from the dvd ?

You can.  Exit Steam first ! if you're on Steam already.

1. Insert Disc
2. Cancel autostart
3. Explore MW3 DVD
4. Double-click setup
5. Follow install instructions
6. Start Steam and wait for only a patch to download 
7. If it doesn't start patching : Go into your Steam games Library. Under Games click Activate a product on Steam and give Steam the info it needs. After this you'll be able to get the latest patches from Steam (singleplayer patch & multiplayer patch) and when finished, reboot your PC and start Modern Warfare 3.

 

26. You get motion sickness, dizziness, nausea, headache and strained eyes when playing PC MW3.

This is because you can't adjust the Field of View (FOV), a wrong screen resolution and (to) low FPS in Modern Warfare 3. 

We can only hope that the developers of MW3 turn all from fixed to adjustable settings with a MW3 patch.

Alternative method :

You normally play MW3 full screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution; but you want a wider Field of View (fov).

Try this :

1. In MW3's Video menu go for the lower 1024 x 768 resolution.
2. And set it to windowed.
3. Go into MW3's Advanced Video menu and set Aspect Ratio to 16:9
4. Leave the menu and make it Apply Settings.

 

25. I can not play PC Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer but I can play everything else just fine.

Go into your Steam games Library. Under Games click Activate a product on Steam and give Steam the info it needs. After this you'll be able to get the latest patches from Steam (singleplayer patch & multiplayer patch) and when finished, reboot your PC and start Modern Warfare 3.

 

24. Steam repeatedly updates or verifies MW3 game files.

When you launch a Modern Warfare 3, Steam always or repeatedly updates same files.

Try this :

1. Restart Steam

If the issue persists,

2. Exit Steam, rename your ClientRegistry.blob to ClientRegistryOld.blob, and restart Steam. The ClientRegistry.blob can be found in your Steam installation directory. C:|Program Files|Steam| by default.

And when this issue is still there, you may have issues with your local Steam files.

You can replace these Steam files without also deleting your MW3 files.

3. Please follow this process for replacing your Steam files with new ones : 

• Exit Steam
• Navigate to your Steam installation directory. (C:|Program Files|Steam|  by default.)
• Delete everything in that directory EXCEPT the following :
• steam.exe
• steamapps directory ( Because ALL Steam's Game files are kept in here !!! )
• Restart Steam  

 

23. PC Modern Warfare 3 Hacked lobbies - Rank Hack on Ranked MW3 P2P hosts.

You get into a MW3 game lobby, start shooting and your score starts whacking up real quick with some insane scores, YES, its a hacked lobby! 

First off DO NOT PANIC, there is a solution to stop all your weapons, emblems, tiles, challenges being unlocked but remember, DO NOT quit the game or steam in haste, just follow theses steps carefully. 

1. Stop playing, as in stop shooting, running, etc, but stay in the hacked lobby game, do not quit it.

2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get you to your task manager (process manager).

3. Once in the Task manager you will see the applications tab, underneath are the programs running, you should have steam and MW3. 

You need to kill steam before killing the game, click on steam then bottom right click end task, it will ask you for confirmation so press ok, once steam is no longer present in the applications, then click MW3 and End Task then confirm when asked. 

Why do this? Well you are killing the process of synchronizing your game stats to the steam cloud, if you quit the game before quitting steam, steam will synchronize and you will be rank hacked

 

22. Modern Warfare 3 Configuration Utility

The second version of the same Configuration Utility we had for MW2 and BlackOps and, again, made by donutdan.

Only a few functions atm. But that's because MW3 has some basic settings fixed.  Why ? Who knows....

21. Modern Warfare 3 and DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error

Set your MW3 texture quality to automatic.

or....

1. For XP
2. Right click on the desktop and choose "Preferences"
3. Select the "Options" tab
4. Click on the "Advanced" button
5. Choose the "Troubleshooting" tab
6. Lower the "Hardware acceleration" bar to "None"
7. Untick the selection box for "Activate combine writing"
8. Press "OK" and restart the computer

What the process is doing after this;  is that DXDIAG is setting the DXDIAG settings to null.
Now do the same process again as told above, all the 7 steps.

When you have restarted the computer for the second time, now you shouldn't have any problems.

or....

Try downloading and installing DirectX 9.0c on your PC. It will not affect your DirectX 10/11, but it may assist with your issue as it installs DirectX files you may have.

or...

In Steam Games Library/right-click game/Properties/General/Set Launch Options/ put in -dx9 and that will make the game run in a more-compatible DirectX 9 mode.

 

20. ClientRegistry.blob

How to reset the ClientRegistry.blob when needed?

Certain Steam issues may be corrected by renaming the ClientRegistry.blob and restarting Steam.

Windows XP/Vista/7

• Completely exit from the Steam client.
• Go to C:\Program Files\Steam (or the Steam directory that was specified during installation).
• Locate ClientRegistry.blob and rename this file to ClientRegistryOld.blob.
• Restart Steam to allow the file to be recreated.

 

19. Steam Error - This game is currently unavailable - too busy - Please try again at another time

-  Sometimes just restarting Steam helps.

-  Try changing your Download Region to see if it affects the issue:

1. Start Steam
2. Go to Steam > Settings > Downloads tab
3. Under Download region, select a different but relatively close region.

-  Verify the Integrity of Game Cache. In the STEAM Library, right click on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, then click Properties. Under properties click on the Local Files tab. Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache and let it repair a broken file when needed. Reboot PC.

Renaming the ClientRegistry.blob will cause Steam to re-download fresh copies of required configuration files, which can solve a large number of issues.

2. Exit Steam, rename your ClientRegistry.blob to ClientRegistryOld.blob, and restart Steam. The ClientRegistry.blob can be found in your Steam installation directory. C:|Program Files|Steam| by default.

If the issue is isolated to a few Steam games, please exit from Steam and go to the Steamapps folder (default is C:|Program Files|Steam|Steamapps) and delete any listed .ncf files for the specific games.  Once complete, please restart Steam to test the issue.

 

18.  Bad graphics and LAG while playing Modern Warfare 3 on your laptop.

You know you have an excellent GT555M graphics card but are you sure you're not using the onboard Intel card ?

Go into the NVIDIA config menu and into the 3D Settings. That's where you select what program you want to run with either GPU processor. Default is Auto Detect. But with MW3 it seems to detect it wrong. So manually select the NVIDIA GPU instead of the integrated one. Browse for the program that you want to associate with the better NVIDIA GPU. For Modern Warfare 3 you need to pick the iw5mp.exe and the iw5sp.exe.

5800 series 3D card - Modern Warfare 3 and whole laptop hangs. Uninstall the Catalyst Control Centre as it is conflicting.

 

17. Getting LAG when playing MP Modern Warfare 3 ?

Turn off the theater recording option in the video options. Lag gone.  

Set all MW3 video settings to lowest and off to see this help.  And work your way up to the max settings your PC can handle.

 

16. Mouse works in single player but not in MW3 multiplayer.

1. A full re-install of Windows is only known option to fix this.  Back up data and format before re-installing Win.
   

 

15. Can't connect to a Modern Warfare 3 Server.

Keeps you hanging in connecting till you get the server connection timed out message.

Might be Crossfire or SLI related. Turning multiGpu from 1 to 0 seems to fix the problem for some.

Backup your config file first. It's commonly found at one of these two locations:

C:|Program Files|Steam|steamapps|common|call of duty modernwarfare 3|players2| config_mp.cfg.

C:|Program Files(x86)|Steam|steamapps|common|call of duty modernwarfare 3|players2| config_mp.cfg.

"Open With..." and select Wordpad (not Notepad).

When you're done making changes do "Save" rather than doing "Save As" so that the file extension won't get changed. 

 

14. Connecting to online services  +  MW3 server is not available at this time.  

Try this :

-  Open Steam, click 'Steam', 'settings', 'in game', uncheck box for "Enable Steam Community In-Game".

or

-  When MW3 hangs in : "Connecting to online services"  Try also opening the Steam browser while ingame.

or

-  Un-install antivirus (Panda Internet Security) and any "unknown"/ unneeded software.

The easy and fastest way to test if you have a connection problem (router settings) :

Pick up your PC and go to a friend's house to see if it's your PC or the connection !

This is what you do when nothing helps :

-  Call your Internet provider (ISP).  Can be they had more calls; and they are blocking something.

-  Apparently there are many problems with Orange Broadband and Netgear routers. If this is the case for you then update to the newest firmware. Once this is done log back onto your router and go to ADSL settings and change the multiplexing method to LLC-BASED and change the DSL Mode to ADSL2+. You can ask Orange for their latest router/modem. 

A statement from Orange on 11-11: They have received many phone calls, regarding Modern Warfare 3 and not being able to connect. They are fixing the problem and have given the timeframe of another 2 days to fix it.

13. You can't find those DEDICATED MW3 servers ?  

You must enable the server browser first !  Load up MW3 Options -> Dedicated Server -> Enable Server Browser.

 

12. And yes, the MW3 Server browser is missing some key features.

You can't search on name or add a server by ip and port.

But lucky for us there is STEAM. Just ad the server's IP to the favorites in the STEAM server browser and join by using this browser...

 

11. Modern Warfare 3 needs Nat Open

Enable uPnP in the router settings or port forward manually. PF: Your ROUTER address will be something like http://192.168.1.1 Just copy and paste this address in your internet browser to contact your router. Now find where your router stores your NAT/PAT settings; usually in the advanced section of the router's interface.

TCP: 3074

TCP: From 27014 to 27050

UDP: 3074

UDP: From 27000 to 27030

Add a new rule, find "create new rule" option, and add the above numbers in external and internal ports and the protocol TCP or UDP.

Apparently there are many problems with Orange Broadband and Netgear routers. If this is the case for you then update to the newest firmware. Also, for Netgear (these directions are for DGN1000 model in particular, but easily can be applied to other routers) go to your ADSL settings area and set the multiplexing method so that it’s LLC-BASED. Also be sure to set the DSL Mode to ADSL2+.   List of ADSL2/2+ Compatible routers/modems

 

 

 

10. When during gaming your PC crashes to desktop.

When Modern Warfare 3 keeps on crashing to desktop it can be helpful to verify the Integrity of Game Cache.

In the STEAM Library, right click on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, then click Properties. Under properties click on the Local Files tab. Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache and let it repair a broken file when needed. Reboot PC.

- Remove your sound card and try the onboard sound option.

 

9. Modern warfare 3 randomly crashes upon launching the game.

• Update your nVidia / ATI graphics drivers
• Turn off SLI / Crossfire in config_mp.cfg
• or try using only one GPU first (turn the other one off via graphics control panel)
• Disable anti-aliasing and filtering
• Disable V-sync
• Disable background progs.
• Make sure your graphics card isn't overclocked.
  

 

8. PC Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Mouse Sensitivity doubles unexpectedly.

The maxfps 85 is to low, needs to be 125. ( In past CoD titles this would happen as well ! ) But MW3 fps is fixed by Infinity Ward.

- Close programs running in the background and check if MW3 is set on high priority and turn priority for all other programs to normal or low.

Open Task Manager by right-clicking on Taskbar and select "Task Manager". Once you open Task Manager, go to "Processes" tab, right-click on any running process and change the priority using "Set Priority" menu. You'll notice some system processes are set to "High" priority and almost all 3rd party processes are set to "Normal" by default.

6. PC MW3 just stretches a lower resolution image to fit your monitor's resolution.

To fix this you can use the Modern Warfare 3 Widescreen fixer and have a normal view and better FOV.

 

5. How to fix the PC MW3 poor texture quality. Get the best graphics by choosing native image quality.

 

4. It will be not possible to activate an English PC version of Modern Warfare 3 in Germany.

 

CoD: ELITE

3. VERIFICATION EMAIL FOR ELITE. You don't get one !  So ignore the Activision System Alert.

 

2. The PC version of Modern Warfare 3 doesn't get the CoD: ELITE PREMIUM service.

No PREMIUM and CoD: ELITE it will have some reduced functionality for the PC Version of MW3.

 

1. The PC version of Modern Warfare doesn't have the CoD:ELITE service on release day.

It is unknown WHEN the PC gamers can log-in on the CoD: ELITE website and use this service.
