A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 developer from Infinity Ward made this announcement :
A modding group created a viral mod, which we prevented from spreading within twelve hours yesterday. Sadly, in ‘protest’ at our ability to disable this they are now inviting player’s to private matches where they reset their stats. We have a fix for this in the works and are backing up player’s stats so that we can restore them if needed next week. In the meantime avoid friend invites from ANYONE not on your friend list.
So some smart bad dudes hacked Modern Warfare 3 and now the MW3 gamers have to deal with infected or hacked lobbies.
The hacked lobbies are trying to decrease players’ ranks. Most MW3 infected lobbies are also “slow-mo” infected, so basically time is slowed down to be about 3 real-time seconds for 1 in-game second (similar to right before a M.O.A.B. goes off or the final second of the game winning killcam). Everything you do is in slow motion expect for when you turn around.
If you get into an infected lobby, then your game is carrying the infection after you leave. After being infected, the only way to get others infected is to host a game in private matches. (Matchmaking got already "fixed" during the weekend.)
Lucky for all : Once you run into a hacked lobby, all you have to do is to back out of the lobby and turn off your xbox. This will reset the infection and clear you of it. You can back out and try to find a new game but if you are infected and you become the host you infect others and by then it is, off course, too late.
The IW developers have stated that they ”are working actively on fixing this issue and also backing up player stats so that they can reset those affected by this malicious behaviour.”
Although only the Xbox is mentioned in above article; same hack is used for PC version of MW3.
