Yesterday there was a Call of Duty: Black Ops Full Multiplayer Reveal Event.

But I can't find official answers on the following questions anywhere...

Call of Duty: Black Ops LAN :

• Must you be online to play LAN PC Black Ops ?

• Lobby System integrated into LAN ? ( missing in MW2 )

• Unlocked Weapons, Classes, and Kits for LAN ?

The need to be logged in; even when you wanted to play some Single Player. A "1984" way of keeping control. Introduced in MW2. Wasn't a succes. 

Call of Duty: Black Ops PC Multiplayer : 

• Does PC CoD: Black Ops use (MW2) matchmaking or (WaW) serverlist ?

Serverlist : the capability to go back to a favorite server or browse for a server you like.

CoD MW2 used IWNet,VAC and Steam; compared to just the 1 MP Masterserver (and when masterserver was down you could still join a favorite server by using IP address) for the older CoD titles. 

Call of Duty: Black Ops PC Multiplayer server : 

• Will server-admins have FULL control or simplified desktop control ?

No public server files. So all are forced to rent a dedicated server from 1 company. Rented servers will have a 18 players cap for ranked and 24 for unranked.

On Aug. 24th we publiced a story named : You can play Call of Duty: Black Ops without Steam ?

It was about a German website which claimed that at Gamescom JD_2020 categorically ruled out a tie-in with Steam.

Well.... SURPRISE !!!!!!

Steam is back in. Lets hope ( for the PC gamers) it won't be CoD Modern Warfare 2 all over again !

CoD: Black Ops presentation was hard to follow...  Didn't see any streaming video.

^ After the presentation there was a hands-on for the lucky few.

Lucky for us, Jock from bashandslash managed to collect some live "insights":

Killstreaks/Carepackages

• Napalm and SR71 killstreak rewards
• Care packages are back: Death machine, Grim Reaper (mini-gun and grenade launcher), Napalm Strike, Gunship, Mortar Team, RC-XD (RC car), Surface to Air Missile.
• Level unlocks can now be paid for with CoD Points. 

Offline training aids 

• The bots are coming: Get combat training offline with a multiplayer training map replete with bots (AI players).

Customization

• Emblem Editor lets you customize your weapon.
• Reticles that come with :) faces etched names and ... wait for it, a flame thrower attachment.
• Multiple zoom lengths for snipers. Many CoD4 mods had this one.
• Your character gets a personalized motion sensor and a signal Jammer.

Bells and Whistles

• Game recorder: Theater Mode allows you to switch the player between any players perspective -- first or third person -- or free cam to move within a 3D space.
•  

Plus we already knew the Leaked Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Content.

PC related :

• Dedicated servers will be rented from GameServers only. Unranked and ranked. Fully customisable.

• CoD:Black Ops will be a Steam exclusive game using VAC. No PB.

•  /record will be in the PC SKU.

• Spectator mode.

Michael McWhertor played some Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer after Activision's multiplayer presentation last night in Los Angeles.

Here is his report: 

Of the hours' worth of Call of Duty: Black Ops that I played at Activision's multiplayer preview event, it was the newly revealed Wager Matches that packed the most punch. Nothing of substance was on the line as I was gambling with other people's "money" in the form CoD Points. (CP is the stuff players will use to buy new weapons, perks, killstreaks, etc. and is different from the Experience Points, or XP, acquired while playing multiplayer.)

The meat and potatoes modes—the frenzied Capture the Flag, the destructive Search and Destroy, Team Deathmatch—were intact, a delight to play, but familiar. Capturing enemy flags and defending the one guarded by my team of strangers on a map dubbed "Slaughter House" was as adrenaline filled and chaotic as ever. Capture the Flag, a staple, plays almost exactly as it did in the most recent Call of Duty. Perfectly fine.

Those now expected modes were spiced up by some of Black Ops' new killstreaks, like the RC-XD remote control explosive car which brings pint-sized but deadly driving to Call of Duty multiplayer. Players can also drop a SAM Turret onto the playfield that will target aircraft like the killstreak-called Attack Chopper. The vicious Attack Dogs of Call of Duty: World At War return in Black Ops, one of the late killstreaks that can help root out campers. Mortar Team was an interesting addition. Acquiring that killstreak lets the player paint three targets onto the map with mortar fire raining down on the map. It's similar to World At War's Artillery Strike.

The Care Package killstreak can, in addition to dropping other killstreaks, provide players with rare weapons, like a mini-gun and rocket launcher. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try those rare weapons on for size.

CoD nr.7 - Black Ops appears to nail the obligatory online competitive aspects of a Call of Duty game, but Treyarch has something new and exciting to complement the multiplayer suite.

Scans of UK gaming magazine Shortlist leaked before tonights Black Ops event.

Revealing:

Black Ops Currency : You can earn "money" by playing multiplayer matches. You can use it to buy in-game weapons, uniforms and accessories.

Black Ops Customization : You can create a tag and etch it onto your weapons, so they’re stamped as yours. The option is also there to alter your sights and clip on attachtments such as flame-throwers.

Black Ops Wager Match : Team Tactical gametype. You’ll be randomly placed in one of four modes: ‘One in the Chamber’, which sees players given one bullet to kill other players: miss, and they’re forced to use the knife, ‘Sharpshooter’, which sees players given a random weapon, ‘Sticks and Stones’, which involves the crossbow, ballistic knife and Tomahawk, and ‘Gun Game’ (formerly a mod for Call of Duty 4), which sees players vying to get kills with 20 different weapons: knife someone, and they move down a level.

And Team Deathmatch, the popular and ever-present gametype which pits teams of 6 against each other, will return in Black Ops. However, points for headshots and other bonuses will apparently add to the team score, encouraging players to be as accurate as possible.
