Question for JD_2020 about Connection and Demonware

CoD World at War News

by Claire Claws

UPDATE

Demonware CoD WaW

This week JD_2020 wrote a nice walkthrough about the process of gamepatching. Today I took the liberty to ask him 2 questions.

  1. Can you give us an update about how much time the Demonware people think they need till they get the issues with the backend servers fixed.
  2. Will there be a client-side fix included in next patch ?

Connection problems is the biggest issue for Call of Duty: World at War at this moment. Gamepatching wont solve this problem.

The Demonware netcode ( company owned by Activision since 2007) is responsible for that part of the game that allows players to play online.  And it is this part of Call of Duty: World at War that isn't not working like it should.

It is the same problem PS3 already got with CoD4. The DemonWare backend servers could not handle the load and started to produce failures.

Now the same is happening again for the PS3 AND PC players. (Demonware is now also used in the PC version.)

I asked specific questions because since the day of the release not a word is said about the Demonware problem.

Will I get my answers? Lets wait and see.

I'm not sure what you're referring to - are you referring to the dedicated servers reconnecting to Demonware automatically, so that they do not need to be rebooted? Because we are making good progress on that for our next patch.

We're still investigating other issues regarding client-side connectivity. Due to the varying software configurations, software firewalls, hardware configurations, routers, etc this one is a bit more difficult to pin point.

TNX for the answer.

Wasn't what I meant but any info is welcome. :D

Auto-reconnect would be great. Have to keep eye on server to do this manually atm.

I meant a server losing it's connection or you cant connect as a player.

You say: client-side connectivity: Due to the varying software configurations, software firewalls, hardware configurations, routers, etc this one is a bit more difficult to pin point.

But when a player already played online without any problems then your list doesn't give an possible answer on what the reason can be why there are connection problems in WaW.

Is the fact that the PC version now also uses DemonWare of any relevance ?

We know from the past that when DemonWare servers can not handle the load they start to produce failures.

Is this why we have these random errors? And if so, when will this problem be fixed ?

There is no global *fix* the Demonware folks need to employ. Each issue is a separate one - today was a power outage at one of the datacenters, which also knocked out the redundant backup supplies. They'll be investigating the causes and take steps to stop that particular issue from occurring again in the future.
