Many players ask:
" Why do we get all this connection related errors? Never had those in CoD4 "
Well in CoD: World at War there is now an authenticating procedure .
And it doesn't matter if you are going to play just some SP or online MP, every time you start this game your PC connects with a big global Master Server. This server keeps track and maintains your unique Profile name which is tied to your CD Key. So in World at War everyone ends up with a unique profile name.
It is for the first time they use this kind of authentication in a Call of Duty title.
Why? Because they wanted to give the WaW PC version a Friends&Invite option (like the consoles have). It would help to play the new CO-OP feature easier by using this Friends&Invite for the required personal setting.
Ok. But what has this to do with all errors we get?
On this moment 85% of all errors reported are related to this new authenticating procedure. And not because it is so difficult to make a profile name and press enter, but because this whole function doesn't work properly.
For starters; the now used Master Server(s) cant handle the load of data-traffic all PC players together produce per second. Especially on Gaming Hours and on Weekends the amount of errors start to rise to a point players stop trying to play.
Errors like "Game don't let me make a Profile name", "the Authentication Error " and all errors you get when you just can't enter a server.
And then there is the losing of all the XP points you earned with fake blood, real sweat and some tears.
Yep. Also a result of this authenticating procedure. Back in the old days, CoD4 and earlier, your only worries were not to get kicked by PB or for having high ping. But now there is this extra 'life line".
You notice it when you start the game. Something is happening ( you don't know what) and then you can see in your right top corner that you and your Profile name are now Online. Great. But what if this Online Profile goes off line and this in the middle of your game....
And then, my friends, all gets so confusing.....
You are playing your best game ever on a MP server and you are on Level 52. Then the connection with your Profile is dropped by the Master Server. ( !! ) MP server kicks you out, your screen goes bananas and all stops there.
Eeeeeeeeeek. All is gone! Stats back to zero. No friends any more, No favorite servers. All is gone.
Although the brochure said "This should allow you to take full advantage of our Friends & Invites features, and still be able to make yourself more uniquely identifiable in-game. " All running walking around as Privates doesn't feel that unique.
So because of this not properly working authenticating procedure we cant enjoy Call of Duty: World at War.
