PC Modern Warfare 2 Online Petition - Dedicated Servers and Mod Tools
by local newspaper
A few weeks before CoD: Modern Warfare 2 would be released already thousands of PC gamers pre-ordered the MW2 game. Many buyers already played the previous Call of Duty titles and the MW2 Video Trailers, published by Infinity Ward, looked amazing.
But in a bashandslash.com LIVE webcast on October 17 2009, Fourzerotwo revealed the existence of IW.net, a matchmaking service that would replace the dedicated servers.
And on that moment it became clear that for the dozens of pre-view articles about Modern Warfare 2 OR in the video interviews with IW employees NO ONE ever asked about any MAJOR changes for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2....
"IW.NET is all about getting the PC community to turn into consoles. You're trying to re-write our history." one of 402's questioners on the bashandslash.com webcast said. But Fourzerotwo was steadfast in telling that, for the whole of the community, IWNet would be a benefit.
But instantly all understood: Activision can make money with this IW.net and no other purpose is served by using this IW.net.
No custom maps, No mods, No Clan servers, No zombie maps, No Game leagues plus Players hosting games.

And within a few hours the PC Gamers got United. A PC Modern Warfare 2 Online Petition started.
First goal was to inform ALL, so people could cancel their Modern Warfare 2 pre-orders in time.
Lets show Activision : YES WE CAN !
and sign the PC MW2 Online Petition
And we did.
Today the petition made the 200.000 signatures we hoped for. And shops around the world told us they had a lot of pre-order cancellations PLUS on release day the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 stayed unsold.
We are now past the wanting of Dedicated servers and Modtools. Infinity Ward and Actvision had their chance to speak with us and tell about a Patch with the Dedicated server features included.
We made the 200.000 signatures before the release days are over. (STEAM buyers are still waiting)
So it's done. We move on to Battlefield Bad Company 2 !
GG all !
