Valve’s Anti Cheat system (VAC) can be disabled in Modern Warfare 2.
"Did you know It’s possible to disable VAC entirely by patching a few bytes here and there within Steam ? IW / Valve did not have the foresight to create a proper VAC MW2 integration. There are no checks to ensure VAC is running and scanning client-side. I won’t be releasing any type of VAC disabler to the public, however."
VAC Disabler demonstration video.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 uses a weak implementation of VAC. The video consists of three parts:
- Demonstration of the Steam file integrity bypass.
- Demonstration of VAC operating normally.
- Demonstration of game play with VAC disabled.
BlackDove’s solution may also be used to bypass Steam updates, as Steam files of different versions may be swapped in an out because of the Steam file integrity bypass. Hackers then would be able to release a new multiplayer crack which, in theory, could never get patched, since you’re not obligated to do Steam updates any more, thus making it interesting to release as hacker group.
