Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer isn't running as you expected it would. It has so much ingame lag you just can't play it. So you submit a support ticket to Activision, but they say it's a Steam problem. You submit another support ticket to Steam, and they say it's an Activision problem....

This is Sm3gly's story about getting support from Activision for his problem :
Support ticket for ACTIVISION :
After 3 days of LAG in Modern Warfare 2 and plenty of tweaking (opening all ports for MW2 and Steam) changing my MTU and a variety of other "FIXES" found on forums. I have gone for installing COD4:MW to compare them both.
Results: COD4:MW ran perfectly with no lag.
MW2 ran the same as the last 3 days, lag, lag and a bit more lag. The game for me is completely unplayable in its current form.
It has nothing to do with my machine performance as singleplayer is flawless in MW2.
I admit that I do not have a great connection to the internet (but since I get no lag playing COD4 and CounterStrike Source) I can only assume that there is a fault with MW2.
Please can you send me any fixes for the poor performance, or let me know if you are presently working on a solution, or where I can send my copy to for a full refund (Don't really want refund as I love COD and want to be able to play the latest version)?
ACTIVISION: Modern Warfare 2 utilizes host migration technology by selecting preferable match with other players as a host or yourself as a host. Some of the lag you experience may be contributed to overall network bandwidth.
To ensure this is not the case, disable or disconnect all other connections to your router temporarily and either port forward or set your PC to DMZ mode. This would basically send all traffic to your PC. See if there is any improvement over the lag.
Depending on the speed of your connection and its quality, you will be matched with players with similar connection quality, one of which will be designated as host.
ME: As stated in my original question I have already forwarded all ports for MW2 and Steam on my router. My PC is the only device on the router, and as a comparison I have installed COD4 on my PC and have NO lag issues. Every game I have played on MW2 has lag (minimum of 30 different lobbys ive joined probably more).
ACTIVISION: I have noted your original response but would also like for you to understand that Call of Duty 4 operates with a DIFFERENT connection method as it relies on a dedicated or central server to connect. Much of the lag is relieved through this method. Modern Warfare 2 DOES NOT use dedicated server technology and employs Host Migration or Peer-to-peer technology. Connection issues are in most cases, beyond the control of users except by the standards of connection quality between each other.
The solutions offered are more of suggestions to improve connection issues but may not completely resolve or eliminate lag though you've already taken these steps.
ME: Well firstly thank you for the fast replys to my question, however I have tried all your suggestions so far and many more showing on forums, with no luck. This game is simply unplayable for me. Therefore please let me know a) if there is any talk on a patch to add dedicated servers back in or b) where I can send my disc for a full refund as I presently have an unusable product.
ACTIVISION: I'm sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with the game.
a) No talks or information rather, at all of dedicated servers.
b) Unfortunately, we cannot handle refunds directly, as our distributors take the product back in bulk from retailers (whose profit has to be accounted for as well). This is why you will have to return the product at the point of purchase.
